MARCH 2007 NEWSLETTER
Greetings Bastards and Bitches,
At 8:30 AM, the sun was climbing and
the air still laden with the night’s dew and moisture. Thin clouds in the blue
sky above seemed to advertise a great day ahead. My lightweight leather jacket
was comfortable and perfect for the ride on the Harley to the Moose to drop off
some last minute supplies for the registration crew. The date was 2/24/07 and
the occasion was COBB Chapter Ones’ Second Annual Pre-Daytona Bash. Set-up crews
from the Chapter and the Moose done their homework and were prepared for the
arrival of a few or many. Three bucks for the breakfast buffet was awesome and
enjoyed by most.
At one point during the registration one of the Moose members commented, “In the
old days bikers would have ridden right into the lodge.” and in a few short
minutes the dance floor was filled with bikes.

At 11:59 AM as planned 128
motorcycles departed on the first leg of the 89 mile ride. The road guards did a
fine job keeping our feet up on the non-stop ride to Kenansville. Back Road
Master Al did a good job mapping the route and leading the pack safely & only
having to wake HB Newt twice! The chase vehicle had a port-o-let on the trailer
and what a great idea it was. It turned out, the plumbing at our stop was out of
order. One guest rider commented, “I gotta hand it to you guys, you think of
everything!”
The second leg of the ride went smooth and we safely arrived at East Lake Fish
Camp to find another 60 to 80 bikes that didn’t make the ride. Dr. Jay (Bless
his heart for his two days plus of prep and pre-cooking) had the meal ready to
go. The Pork would fall apart when looked at and the tender, seasoned to
perfection grilled chicken, was second to none. Nobody walked away hungry,
thanks to Jay’s set-up and serving crew.
After the meal the games began.
Several games on the agenda had to be cancelled due to the many contestants in
the “Weinie Bite” and “Barrel Roll.” Kudos go to our man, “SAM” and crew, for
one a hell of a job setting up and running them. DJ John who MC’d the event,
kept everyone’s attention till the band took stage. He also ran the last two
contests during band breaks, (Pole in the Hole and Stick Cleaning) and had
everyone roaring with laughter. He (DJ John) also amazed us as an auctioneer.
Whatever the contest, all who entered were winners in our book. VP Hoghead was
all over the place spreading the word, “It’s all good!” and helped out wherever
help was needed. 2nd VP ET also did a great job of being a utility guy. The
balloon booth was very popular where for a buck a dart, participants received
the prize inside the busted balloon. Special thanks to the merchants and all who
donated these items.
Our “Poster Child Jasen” diligently attended the chapter merchandise table so
all who desired could get any COBB stuff needed or for a souvenir of the event.
Helpers Giggles and Carlos were an asset throughout the event. Key players,
Roland & Spike Mike were involved with everything from start to finish.
Jeanie, Colleen, Kyle and Donna did a
hell of a job with their non-stop purveyance of the spirit and the prize balloon
booth. Matching the hours of everybody’s sweetheart Beverly was unparalleled,
who kept the records and worked the ticket booth for the committee. Head Bastard
Newt said committee chairman Frank deserved the Silver Star for putting the
event together. Good grief, no matter what, somebody will be overlooked in these
credits. If you aren’t listed, let me know and we’ll somehow try to make it up
to you. Roger, Dan, Anita, Curby, all Scott’s, Geno, Danielle, Shubbie & Shubett,
Nicole, Ron, Tom, Minnesota, Corrina, Duck, Pebbles, the other Al, Membership
Chairman RJ, Jimbo, Frankie D., Butch and the Forrester crew.
When the band (Detour, good job gang!) quit it was off to the tents, RV and
cabins where Cobbraderie continued for a few. What a great day and night. Sunday
morning was not as enthusiastic as Saturday for most. Some had breakfast, some
had hangovers (only one or two) and all slowly gathered their belongings and
headed home with a memory not soon to be forgotten. If you missed this one. . .
. . . . . . . . you missed it!
